New work by Samiu Napa’a

These three paintings are to feature in the upcoming exhibition, South/Central opening at Fresh Gallery Otara this Thursday 3 September from 6pm. The exhibition runs until Saturday 26 September.

Suffering a broken thumb injury on his dominant arm, Otara-based Tongan painter, Samiu Napa’a has painted these works entirely with his left hand. His signature style of painting on found surfaces is realised in the use of three uniform pieces of 3mm MDF salvaged from a set of drawers.  The paintings are ‘framed’ in a style Napa’a developed for his 2007 body of work for the joint exhibition, Maka Tu’u Taha at Fresh Gallery Otara. Works are for sale.

The other artists in the exhibition are: Bobby Macdonald, Dean Purcell, Sean Purcell and Siliga David Setoga. An exhibition floortalk will take place from 12pm on Saturday 12 September.
