As I gear up for the 15th show at Fresh Gallery Otara, Fresh Gallery Otara Turns 1!, I’m reflecting on an exciting first year for Fresh Gallery Otara. We’ve seen almost 70 artists exhibit in the space, generated over 60 individual artwork sales, hosted art forums, fantastic openings, meetings and get-togethers; been a part of history-making projects, and fostered rich and meaningful connections and networks.
Apart from a great team at Manukau Arts, some individuals have been so much part of the gallery’s growth and development. A massive thank you goes out to local artist Leilani Kake who has been involved with literally every show in some way or another, big thanks also to Genevieve Pini and Jacob Su’a; to those members of the Otara community who have come to every single show like Monica Fa’alava’au, Yvonne Matson, Robyn Allpress, and to our amazing Otara Councillor, Su’a William Sio, whose support and words of encouragement have meant a lot. Pacific Issues Correspondent for Radio New Zealand, Richard Pamatatau, has given us some amazing press, as has Mary-Jane McKibbon-Schwenke and Nemai Vucago on Radio 531PI.
Fresh Gallery Otara Turns 1! features: Steven Ball, Juan Castillo, Mere Clifford, Troy Jackson, Leilani Kake, Sean Kerrigan, Chris Lologa, Danielle Meredith, Samiu Napa’a, Luse Nemani, Genevieve Pini, Amy Plant, Jacob Su’a, Glenda Vilisoni, Vanessa Wynyard.
